Simple Solar Energy - DIY

Every month bills are piling up, gas prices are at all-time highs and we are all trying all the ways we can to save ourselves some penny. We should start by making our homes more energy efficient and maybe a starter simple solar energy DIY project. Harbour Freight and Northern Tool and Equipment both have simple solar energy DIY kits starting at around 200 dollar going up into the thousands. For those who want to find the real savings, building your solar energy system yourself is the way to go. Spend 20 to 40 dollar and get a high rated solar DIY guide. Let's start saving our money.

So, now let’s start on building our first solar panel. Then we can increase or upgrade the size of our solar system one at a time. The best thing about a solar energy DIY project the more knowledge we get the faster and more efficient the last part of the project becomes. Making the first one always takes the longest time.

Firstly is to decide where we are going to put our solar energy panels. Either an open piece of land next to the house or a good spot on the roof. You must make sure that your solar energy panels can get as much of the suns daylight as possible. The more sun light we can get the more power our panels will put out for the day. With our building area picked out we can now get started on our simple solar energy DIY project.

The next part that very important. Is to have a good charge controller for our solar energy system. This controls the amount of electricity that is flowing in and out from our storage unit. The charge controller will help us get the most out of our batteries. Why I feel this is the most important part because the batteries are the most expensive part of our energy system. We must buy ourselves a deep cycle battery for our energy storage unit. I myself like to make my storage unit larger than I will need at the moment. So I buy two batteries to start out. That way when my solar energy DIY project progresses I will don't have to work on the storage unit again.

Finally we have DC power coming out from our solar panel and going into our batteries. The DC power must be converted to AC power to use in the home. So install a power inverter is a must. So I install one large enough to handle our finished solar energy DIY project.

After the entire energy system is built I like to go back over the whole thing. If you’re not sure about something just refer back to your guide. I am pretty great at following directions but it better safe than sorry when working with electricity.

Going the solar energy DIY route, our system will cost us up front but the future savings will be very huge. Our energy system will last us long after it has paid for itself several times over. You will be able to fix any problem that can go wrong. Just from the knowledge you obtained by putting the energy system together.

Maintenance for your solar system is very little. Natural weather conditions such rain tend to keep them clean enough without losing much in efficiency. For me, I just like to look over my energy system every couple of weeks or monthly basis and check the batteries and look if there is any sign of corrosion. Check the wires for any discoloration. Discoloration can be a bad sign your wires are getting to hot and might have to go to a larger gauge wire. All in all there is not a whole lot to keep up on.
